I want to extend my thanks to Lizzie Newell, the Sci-fi Writer from Alaska who literally builds worlds and designs sea fairing vessels. I have wanted to thank her for a while now, as she is in large part the reason I am able to post to Facebook today.

You see, sometime in October, somebody or some algorithm marked one of my short stories as spam. The Facebook defense team, a rapid moving monster with no eyes and large ear plugs jammed past the eardrum, swooped in and shut down my entire sharing system. Where I once got 100 views a day I soon got zero.

I continued a losing fight, all but harassing Facebook until I turned to the writing support groups that nestle deep within those algorithms. There I met a hero in Lizzie. She looked at my web page (an exceptionally nice thing to do in today’s world), she tried to share it, and then reported the issue to Facebook. She then posted and commented left and right, getting others to follow suit. Her efforts managed to unblock my website for a weekend. Their Facebook defense team defeated, the algorithms sent out the Facebook task force, giant seven legged creatures with claws for hands and mouths for eyes. I soon again could no longer post anything- permanently.

So I had to revamp my entire website, change my posting schedule, fix everything. But through it all Lizzie was there as moral support. She showed me a kindness I hope to show others in life. She, and others like her are the sacred knights of the Facebook writing forum, looking for altruistic opportunities in a place where they are quite frankly needed. For that I believe she deserves recognition.

Every vehicle within those stories, she created and has a model of as well. She is an astonishing mix of art and craft. Her Instagram is full of her real life adventures, tucked gently with haikus and observations of fractal patterns. Her work explores a maritime world with social dynamics in which the women rule. The cover art, by the way- all done by her. But enough of my ramblings- let’s have Lizzie and her work speak for themselves.

On a planet with three women for every man, eugenicists believe Teakh Noahee is innately nurturing, monogamous, and altruistic. Teakh’s DNA, coded for altruism, may hold the key to male survival on the harsh ocean planet of Fenria. He could father a generation of men willing to sacrifice themselves for others, but Teakh has no knowledge of the plans. Unaware of his value as a sperm donor, he loses his virginity and a spoonful of his seed to a mysterious trio of women. They are succubi, professionals who sell semen on the black market. True to his genetics, Teakh falls in love with one of them. Determined to assist in raising his children, he rebels against the Fenrian matriarchy and sets his own course, founding a new clan that treats men and women as equals, all for the love of the woman who cheated him.

Sappho and her bisexual partner, Daisy, insemination specialists, have landed the case of a lifetime: arrange an anonymous liaison between the most eligible bachelor on the planet and a mysterious young woman. The purpose: to produce a child. As Sappho and Daisy unravel the identity of the woman and the sexual fetishes of the couple, they discover an entangling mesh of politics, technology, and sexuality. Lizzie’s Haiku

full moon blue to rose
clear sky phases to dark night
edges of brightness

snow melts on blacktop
crystalline flakes drift through time
wilt into wet slush

Turnagain high tide
gray waters under gray sky
bounded by mountains

sharp snowflakes pile up
obedient to no one
storm the walled-in gates

You can find her haikus with accompanying photos on Instagram here.

Her sci-fi novels are on amazon here.

Her beautiful website can be found by clicking here. There you will find insights about fractals, sculptures of the planets she’s built, and models of cool boats. Her models are entirely made out of paper as far as I understand, which is something I find absolutely fascinating. She also has a page about world building that might help some authors struggling with setting.
